Working with partners

Railway Children works closely with various governmental, non-governmental and local communities in India, the UK and Africa. We work in partnership with local voluntary organisations to provide:
• A point of contact for children arriving at transport terminals and other early destination points.
• Family reintegration, shelter, healthcare, education, training, protection and, above all, care and friendship.

We believe in partnering with local organisations rather than implementing the interventions ourselves because we understand and appreciate the enormous treasury of knowledge and experience that our partners possess. Moreover this approach also aids in keeping our overall costs low, thus ensuring that almost every pound that is donated reaches the children directly.

Railway Children goes beyond being just another funding organisation - we not only build a strong alliance with our partners but also intensely focus on adding value to them. We believe strongly in a “fund plus approach” and thus act as a support system to our partners building their capacity at organisational and programmatic level. We facilitate our partners to improve, initiate, inform, influence, inspire and innovate.

While our partners bring invaluable local knowledge, established community relationships and projects specific to the needs of the locality, we provide the systems and practices to develop sound, transparent, credible and cost effective programmes for children. This is done by providing strategic planning, organisational management, monitoring, evaluation and strategic linkages with key influencers. We facilitate the sharing of knowledge, experiences and best practices among our partners across the globe.

Working together, we are able to deliver a wide range of services, such as shelter, family re-unification, nutrition, education, medical care and psycho-social support programmes much more effectively than we could alone. We envisage a world of safety and opportunity for children and work together to bring about positive and sustained change in their lives.
