THERE was no need to dream of a white Christmas for 335 Santas taking part in the Railway Children’s charity run on December 20th.
The snow began to fall just before runners took to the start line in the town centre for the Nantwich Santa Dash.
“It was just enough snow to bring a smile to people’s faces, without creating any difficulties,” said Mhari Oakes from Railway Children, one of the chief organisers of the event.
The race was deemed to be a huge success and the charity is now planning to hold the Santa Dash on an annual basis.
“With sponsorship money and Santa Dash running fees, we are hoping to raise around £10,000,” Mhari added.
Celebrities attending the event included Big Brother winner Sophie Reade, X-Factor singer Marie-Clare Scott and Premiership footballer Ryan Shawcross.
Sophie gave the countdown to the race, with huge cheers from her hometown of Nantwich, meanwhile X-Factor singer Marie-Clare entertained the crowds with a live performance.
The Mayor of Cheshire East, Cllr Margaret Simon, and the Mayor of Nantwich, Cllr Edith Williams, also welcomed runners to the town and presented trophies to the winners.
The first male in the 2.5K race was 18-year-old Daniel Allcock from Wistaston in Crewe in nine minutes and 43 seconds.
The first female was Natalia Mizzi from Middlewich who completed the race in 12 minutes and 44 seconds with her two children, Ceejay, aged 5, and Sashajay, aged 3.
In the 5K race, first place male prize was awarded to Martin Packham of Stapeley, Nantwich, for 19 minutes and 36 seconds and the first placed female was first placed female was Maggie Fenn of Winnington, Northwich in 21 minutes and 29 seconds.

How will the ‘Santa Dash’ help street children?
The money raised from the Santa Dash really will 'Make A Difference'. A HUGE difference in fact!
There are a staggering 120 million street children in the world. Abandoned, driven away by abuse or neglect.
Orphaned by poverty or disease, they are used, abused, hungry and vulnerable. Our task is enormous. A country the size of Russia could not accommodate all the street children across the world. That is why supporters of events, such as the Santa Dash, are invaluable. We urgently need your help so that we can continue to change the lives of street children.
Your money and support will ensure a brighter future:
• £5 will provide a child with 3 good meals a day for 12 days in India.
• £10 is enough for food, overnight clothing and toiletries for a runaway refuge in the UK.
• £25 will keep a child in formal education in India for six weeks.
• £50 could pay for a child to be reunited with their family.
• £200 will fund an outreach worker to make contact with children when they arrive on a platform in India.
• £450 could pay for a doctor to provide medical care for hundreds of sick children in Africa.
• £1,000 will cover the daily running cost of an entire refuge centre for runaway, abandoned, abused or neglected children in the UK.
