Virtual fundraising ideas
In these difficult times, we all need some activities, fun and social engagement, so why not organise something and raise money for us at the same time? All you have to do is come up with a fundraising idea or choose from one of the suggestions we’ve added below to inspire you. Then get in touch to let us know what you’re doing and raise funds by setting up a Just Giving page.
Creating a birthday fundraiser is a fantastic way to give back to a cause you're passionate about on your special day. Staying at home and self-isolating mean social gatherings and parties are on hold, but you could ask friends and family to donate to Railway Children instead on your Just Giving page or set up a Facebook fundraiser here.
Virtual Book Club
Take your book club online or set up your own online book club.
Donate the money that you would have spent on drinks and snacks to Railway Children.
Virtual Games Night
From Monopoly to Uno, Scrabble to Cluedo, there are numerous popular games available to play with others. Host a tournament evening online with friends and ask them to donate to play.
Make sure to keep a leader board and note down the points for each game, eventually crowning the winner of the competition.
Virtual Movie Night
Everyone presses ‘play’ at the same time! Watch the film Lion – Railway Children is the official charity partner. Arrange a time where everyone can join in, ask for a small “movie ticket” fee to be donated via a Just Giving page and then sit back, relax and watch together!
Virtual Pub Quiz
Flex that muscle memory with a quiz night in! We all enjoy a good pub quiz, after all that’s what makes them such good fundraising events! We know you’re currently without the ‘pub’ element, but that’s not to say you can’t have a cracking quiz with friends and family, be it with those you’re isolating with, or online! Use Zoom or Houseparty and ask people to donate to enter.
Friday Night Drinks
Used to having a drink with colleagues or friends on a Thursday or Friday night? You still can! Have a drink together online during a video call and each person can donate the price of their favourite drink to Railway Children.
Get yourself sponsored
There are so many ways other ways you can raise funds for Railway Children to change children's lives. It could be as mad as Andy who is going for a full body wax, Bobby who ran a marathon round his garden or Jamie who is cycling the height of Everest in one day on his indoor bike. How about a sponsored silence for your children? Useful if you’re trying to work from home! Or how about giving up something - chocolates, biscuits, a glass of wine or two?
