We’ve taken 3,988 children back home to their families, protected 173,460 found at railway stations and given vital outreach support to 12,416 children. But we’re only just getting started. Now we have put together ambitious plans that will see us reach more children at risk, in more locations around the world and change more lives.
Please watch the video to see how we’re going to do it and how you can be part of our fight for a world where no child ever has to live on the streets.
Our family workers in Mwanza spotted 8-year-old Kelvin and his 10-year-old sister Esther sitting on the side of the road eating a rotten watermelon. They had been collecting unwanted fruit from the market as neither had eaten the night before and both children had been beaten up by older youths for taking food from the dustbins.
Back home, our team found Kelvin and Esther’s mother, Rosa, bedridden. She had not eaten for days but despite the extreme poverty the two-room shack was clean and tidy. Rosa desperately wanted to be able to provide for her family so our family workers have been able to offer emergency food baskets as well as help her set up a business selling vegetables. Now the family have an income and the children can go back to school.
