Railway Children Sleepout success brings in £164,000

Our third Sleepout event took place last week and was a huge success – with 350 participants joining the nationwide event at eight station locations.

Despite temperatures being low, spirits were high and teams from across the rail industry united to make it a brilliant night. Bundled in sleeping bags and sporting their trademark Railway Children beanie hats, everyone taking part put themselves through a night of hardship to raise money for those children who have to put up with much worse, much more often.

Thanks to the headline sponsorship of VolkerRail and the support of Network Rail the money raised will go directly to support children around the world that need our help.

And thanks to another brilliant Sleepout, that amount currently stands at a staggering £164,000 with more funds still coming in.

That total will genuinely change the lives of children and families around the world.

Terina Keene, Railway Children’s CEO, said: “Our annual Sleepout event was another huge success this year and we can’t thank all those that took part enough. It raised an amazing amount of money and once again proved how much we can all achieve when we unite the whole rail family for an event like this. So many people from throughout the industry put themselves through a pretty cold and uncomfortable night to help us reach children around the world that have no one to care for and protect them.

We couldn’t do what we do without our incredible supporters.

The top fundraisers from each location were rewarded with sweet treats while outlets at the various locations offered snacks and drinks to those taking part. With the grand fundraising total rising year after year and this event becoming a firm favourite in the calendar, plans are already in place to organise the Railway Children Sleepout for 2023 – watch this space for updates!
