Kajal* was 17 when our teams found her at the station in obvious distress.

She had run away from home after being pushed into dropping out of school by her family who wanted her to marry. Kajal was bright and intelligent and wanted to carry on studying so took some money from the family home and left.

With no clear plan she had soon become lost and anxious but our team knew she was at risk of being trafficked or abused so made sure she had a safe place to stay.

As Kajal settled into our shelter we contacted her family and spent time working with them to make sure they understood the dangers of child marriage and the benefits of education. Once we knew the situation had changed we were delighted to be able to reunite Kajal and make sure she returned to her studies.
