Railway Children's Rail Trail

It's back for 2024! Join us in September for another walk along an iconic London underground route: This year it's the turn of the Circle line.

Generously supported by Transport for London, the Railway Children Rail Trail will follow the iconic Circle line overland, covering a distance of 21km and 27 stations.

Whether you take part with friends, family or colleagues, the Rail Trail is a great way to get fit, see the sites of London and enjoy a great day of camaraderie, all while raising vital funds for children alone and at risk.

The event has a fundraising target of £100 per participant and the process of gathering sponsorship couldn’t be easier. But, as well as raising money, this experience is about challenging yourself and having fun – along with plenty of chances along the route to rest your feet, fuel your body and make the most of those photo opportunities!

Route highlights

As you walk the 21km route, you'll pass through some of London's most beautiful and historic areas. Here are just a few of the landmarks you'll encounter along the way:

  • Hyde Park: Enjoy a brief stroll along the edge of one of London's largest and most famous parks.
  • Notting Hill: Wander through this charming neighbourhood known for its colourful houses and vibrant market.
  • Kensington and Chelsea: Marvel at the stunning exterior of The Churchill Arms, a pub famous for its floral displays.
  • Baker Street: Don't miss the iconic Sherlock Holmes statue outside the station.
  • Victoria Embankment: Take in the scenic views along the River Thames.
  • Big Ben: Pass by London's most recognisable clock tower.
  • St Paul's Cathedral: Admire the grandeur of this historic church.
  • The Monument: Commemorate the Great Fire of London at this impressive column.
  • London Eye: Get a glimpse of this modern symbol of London as you make your way along the route.

The route is designed with ease in mind, as most stations are close together, ensuring no long stretches between check-ins.

How it all began...

The Rail Trail series of events launched as part of Rail Aid 2022, with 200 participants walking the 15-mile walk route of the new London Underground Elizabeth line. Celebrating the Platinum Jubilee and the opening of the commemorative route, the Elizabeth line Rail Trail on October 7th raised an incredible £42,000 of vital funds for Railway Children. The event was generously sponsored by SMBC Leasing and supported by TfL and MTR, and saw those taking part following the new line through the streets between Woolwich and Paddington.
