Back on Track: Toby’s Journey to a Brighter Future
With one-to-one support from Railway Children, 15-year-old Toby* has rediscovered his confidence, returned to education, and is chasing his dream of becoming a football coach.
Meet Toby
When we met 15-year-old Toby, he had been out of school for nearly a year.
With his mum working long hours and little support from school, he felt lost and disconnected. The school-work he was given was basic and uninspiring, and he began spending time with a group that drew him into trouble on the rail network.
Finding Support
Everything changed when Toby was referred to Railway Children. One of our support workers began meeting with him regularly, offering guidance, encouragement, and a safe space to talk.
Through these one-on-one sessions, Toby began to rebuild his confidence and discover a sense of purpose.
Looking ahead
With our help, Toby secured a place at a Pupil Referral Unit where he could learn in a way that worked for him.
Now, he’s back on track—studying for his GCSEs and preparing to start at a sports academy.
This will allow him to pursue his passion for football while earning a qualification in coaching.
Unlocking potential
£95 could pay for five one-to-one support sessions, starting a young person’s journey to a safer, brighter future.
