Drugs alcohol and addiction

Struggling with addiction? Find resources to help you understand it, seek help and take steps toward recovery.

From childhood, we’re taught to stay away from drugs and alcohol.

But addiction and drug misuse can be complicated. It can creep up on you before you realise.

Growing up is tricky – with the constant pressure to fit in and be accepted by society.

When drugs and alcohol get thrown into the mix, you can find yourself doing things you know aren’t healthy but, at the time, can feel like the only way to be accepted or the only way to cope. The problem is, pretty soon, you can find yourself depending on drugs and alcohol just to get through the week, or substance use can start messing with other areas of your life.

The good news is there are lots of organisations out there that can help – they don’t judge, they understand how drugs and alcohol can start to take hold, and they’ll take things at your pace. Don’t ever be scared to talk to trusted people around you or contact your GP for help.

“If your friends are pressuring you to do drugs, they’re not that good friends.”

– Ted, 14
