Find the event that’s right for you
Each of our challenges is designed to be achievable for most people – as long as you’re willing to put in some training when needed. You don’t have to be a professional athlete, but the fitter you are, the more you’ll enjoy our tougher events.
Our event ratings are a guide to help you gauge what to expect. Keep in mind that a challenge rated as a “2” might include a tougher day at level “3”, while a “5” challenge could include a slightly easier “4” day.
Event Level 1 – no training required
No physical training needed.
These events may include other challenges such as uncomfortable conditions or braving the cold at our Sleepout, which takes place annually at railway stations across the UK.

Level 2 – minimal training required
A physical event which is accessible and achievable for most people with an average level of fitness.
Light training is recommended but not essential.
For example, our Rail Trail event is a great option at this level.

Level 3 – training recommended
A more challenging event that requires good fitness. Expect undulating terrain, long periods of exertion, and plenty of ascent and descent.
For example, our Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge sits at this level.

Level 4 – training essential
Tough events requiring high stamina and fitness. Includes long days, steep climbs and descents and testing conditions such as rain, darkness, or minimal rest.
For example, our Three Peaks Challenge by Rail event involves varied terrain, possible storms and sections completed at night.

Level 5 – training mandatory
Extreme challenges, often at high altitude (over 5,000m), in unpredictable weather ranging from very hot to freezing cold.
These involve consecutive days of intense exertion with little respite.
An example of this would be our Kilimanjaro Trek, a 14-day overseas adventure.
