RAILWAY CHILDREN SUPPORTERS RAISE £46,256 THROUGH URBAN AND RURAL AUTUMN CHALLENGES

Hundreds of Railway Children supporters raised £46,256 across two of the charity’s flagship autumn events – walking London’s Piccadilly Line overland and taking on a climb, cycle and kayak route through the Lake District.

210 participants. Three routes. One amazing day.

At 7am on 25 September, 30 walkers set off from Uxbridge station to follow the length of the Piccadilly Line, overland, for 58km – with the first walker arriving at Cockfosters 11 hours later. Meanwhile, 180 others completed 20km or 12km routes – finishing at King’s Cross.

All participants completed their challenge, seeing London in a whole new light while raising over £38,000 to support Railway Children’s work with vulnerable children in and around transport hubs in the UK, India and Tanzania.

Now in its fifth year, the event was headline sponsored by BTTC, with Knorr Bremse also supporting the challenge.

Rob Offord, Director of BTTC, said: “As a business with deep roots in the rail industry, Rail Trail is a cause and event that particularly resonates with BTTC. The railway brings people and communities together every day, and events like this give our industry a fantastic opportunity to come together and make a positive difference beyond the work we deliver.

“With our own team from BTTC taking part in the walk, alongside colleagues and friends from across the sector, we know firsthand what a great opportunity Rail Trail is to challenge ourselves, strengthen relationships and, most importantly, raise funds and awareness for Railway Children.

“At BTTC, we believe successful businesses have a responsibility to contribute to the communities in which they operate. Railway Children’s work to support children facing some of the most difficult circumstances, both in the UK and internationally, is something we are extremely proud to support.”

All in a day’s work for England Triple participants

Just two weeks after Rail Trail, Railway Children’s events team swapped London for the Lake District, where 18 participants biked through Grizedale Forest, kayaked on Coniston Water and summited The Old Man of Coniston all in a single day, raising £8,000.

The England Triple is the third in Railway Children’s national multi-sport challenge series, following successful events in Scotland and Wales. A fourth and final challenge will take place in Ireland on a date to be confirmed in 2027, with every event pushing participants to their limits in some of the UK’s most stunning and demanding locations.

Rob Capener, Railway Children Group CEO, said: “The Triple series gives participants three big challenges rolled into one, set in some of the most beautiful locations the UK has to offer. As well as creating a huge sense of camaraderie, the events raise vital funds that help Railway Children protect and support some of the world’s most vulnerable children when they need us most.”

Details of the Ireland Triple event are yet to be confirmed but will be available on the charity’s events page.
