NEURODIVERSITY
Neurodiversity describes the variation within all human brain function, including those whose brains function neurotypically.
Neurodivergence describes roughly 20% of the population who have a neurodevelopmental difference in brain function, including autism, ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia and Tourette’s Syndrome. It can affect a person’s communication, behaviour, sensory experience and how they process and interpret information.
With a significant increase in the diagnosis of neurodivergent conditions in recent years and increasing numbers of neurodivergent young people using the transport system, it is essential that transport staff understand and are equipped to support these passengers.
Our neurodiversity training for the transport sector combines lived experience and expert knowledge with practical insight and youth-led feedback to provide staff with a deeper understanding of how neurodivergence may present on the transport system and the practical skills to create more inclusive, considerate travel experiences for neurodivergent passengers.

Course content: This CPD accredited course is for anyone working within the transport industry who would like to improve their awareness of neurodiversity and how this can impact travel – from planning a journey to navigating busy stations and stops. The course provides an in-depth understanding of neurodiversity, including conditions such as autism, ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, and sensory processing differences, and the vital role transport professionals play in creating positive, safe and inclusive travel experiences for everyone. Participants will gain practical insights into recognising potential challenges, communicating with empathy and making simple, considerate adjustments to help reduce anxiety and improve confidence for neurodivergent passengers. The course also highlights the important connection between inclusion and safeguarding, helping participants identify when someone may be vulnerable and know how to respond to the impact that distress, confusion or sensory overload may cause. Ideal for anyone working across the transport sector, this course promotes inclusive, customer-focused practice to help ensure every journey is as accessible, respectful, welcoming and safe as possible.
